I am sad

It is really very disappointing to find out every day that there is a serious part of the Romanians today who behave so wrong when it comes to discuss about work. These people… aren’t they tired applying for jobs and when we call them for an interview they say to my assistant “why do you call me? Who gave you my number?”???
How is it possible to shake hands with someone and agree to work together and then to disappear, not answering to phones? Why did you shake the hand then? What is the seriousness that your words have?
How can you beg someone to hire you, telling him that you can work really hard and when he gives you the chance then to leave the office in 3 hours because… “what is this here? We just work? I just had time to go to the restroom since 09.30 and it is 13.00”?
How can you ask someone for one chance to prove your skills and then simply to announce to him that you changed your mind?

I know the answers to all the questions above. But although I’ve seen these things happening too many times, I still find it difficult to accept that a serious part of this society has no self respect. Too bad, for them…

I am happy

A very good friend of mine was in Baneasa Shopping City last week, where he forgot his bag with money, cards and mobile. He was so surprised to find out that a 21 years old gentleman answered when he called to find his mobile. The gentleman informed him that he was expecting him to come and pick up his bag with all the content. My friend went there and he realized that the young Romanian didn’t even check what is in the bag, his moral education was so good.
Last Friday, I had to catch up to 5 meetings before I would go to the airport, so as to fly for Greece. Meetings starting from 09.00 to 13.30 (ok, the last one was really short). I was in BRD café in Piata Dorobanti, finishing one of my meetings. I went to pay, giving to the lady 100 ron. Someone called me and as I get older (soon I’ll become 33) I started talking to him and forgot all about the change. The lady ran behind me, so as to give me the change she had to. She was RUNNING…
The fact that both my friend and I thanked these people is not so important. Even the tip says nothing. For me the most important is to confirm once more than next to all these unserious people around us, we have another part of the society rising too. Young people, serious Romanians, with self respect and morals, who don’t let anyone to treat them badly, just because they don’t have a lot of money. Not only I salute them, but I feel lucky I meet them every day (and hopefully I will start finding more and more of them).
Sometimes, we, the foreigners, get disappointed by the behaviour of many people here in Romania. Many of these times, the mistake is firstly ours, but there are also cases that people are really impolite and rude. Let us not forget that it exists also the bright side of life, with many good and serious people around us. And between you and me, if I would compare these good Romanian people with the majority of the foreigners that I see every day, I am sorry but these Romanians are better…
