Finally… Romania officially discusses for IMF help

It may sound weird to some of you, but for me the news is very good. The Romanian President, Mr. Traian Basescu, has finally officially declared the country’s intention to discuss and probably to accept help by IMF and European Union. He stated that the necessary funds amount to some 20 billion euro and this will be something like a “safety belt” for the economy and the country.
I know that many will start dramatizing the whole situation, as if Romania will collapse if IMF will help. But for me it is practically the opposite. The news is very good because:

• If no funds will arrive, then even a serious damage (if not collapse) will happen soon.
  • Now everyone is waiting for what will happen. This paralyzes the economy and creates an unhealthy atmosphere for every serious company.
  • It will be a sign to people, informing them that they have to reconsider the crazy expenses they had in the near past (just 8 months ago, in summer 2008, we lived the most expensive vacation of millions of people in this country). It will be a sign even for the ones who still believe that the problem will be solved in few months…
  • I know that the cure will hurt and usually the wounded ones are the ones with low incomes. I hope that the Government will find a solution so as to protect them when IMF will ask for hard measures. But even if some of thee measures will be too tough (and I disagree), there are also good, healthy things to do, so as to increase the state’s revenues and cut off unnecessary expenses. Without someone to force the country from outside, it would be very difficult for any Government to decide and execute this kind of measures by itself.
  • Unfortunately every painful solution is the beginning of a new great period of success. So we have to suffer first, before we return to easy, good years. And this loan will force us to become better, more efficient and more responsible.
  • Only this kind of news can unblock the billions which wait out of the door, so as to enter in Romania. These billions target thousands of Romanians, but their delay until today was unacceptable. The news will force everyone to hurry up, promoting the healthy serious development of the economy.
  • Last but not least. After Romania will obtain the loan, we will know where we are, the real situation and problems, so as to organize our future and build on more solid basis.

I hope that everything will be ok and the loan will be obtained soon. I strongly believe that the sooner the problems will be faced in this way, the solution will be found soon and the market will start moving even sooner…
