Romania through my eyes

Happy nameday to all Elena and Constantine!

La multi ani! I know endless people with these two very popular names, in Greece and Romania as well. Today it is their nameday and I wish to all of them Health, Hapiness and all the best! How popular is the name? Popular enough, so as my uncle’s family has today 5 people celebrating! (My uncle, my aunt, the wife of their elder son and two grand children!). Another uncle has birthday too, so you can understand that for a “quite traditional” guy like me, the evening will be full…

Comments – Suggestions – Updates…

Today Northern Greece is lovely. Sunny, warm, but not too hot so as to be frustrating… In the same time, I am moving from one meeting to the other, replying meanwhile to the waves of emails that arrive to my inbox. Believe it or not, this period is really very busy, as we find more and more properties in fair, realistic values. As we have focused as company to the income properties in Romania and recently in Greece too, I tend to discover opportunities which were impossible to find last year (this was one of the reasons why the clients were absent back then). And having clients with available [...]

Eurovision 2009: A great business lesson for all of us… (Part 2)

(to read part 1, please press here …)   In 2009 it matters what you can do, not only who you are…          Greece sent to Eurovision its biggest star, the known as most handsome Greek of his age, probably the top performer at least in the Balkans. With the best smile, best body and guaranteed effect to millions of women. The best choreography, created by the Greek who did the job last year for Dima Bilan and Ani Lorak! The national television (the organizer of all) invested millions in a long promo tour, worked based on polls, figures, analyses. Even 2.500 Greeks traveled to Moscow, [...]

Eurovision 2009: A great business lesson for all of us… (Part 1)

Saturday night hundreds of millions of viewers around the world watched Eurovision song contest. In some countries, like Greece, it reached the levels of “hysteria”, with around 83% (!) of the turned on televisions around the country watching the show. I was definitely one of the millions who watched, as I have been watching it since I remember myself, back to the early ’80s (following a special “agreement – pact” with my parents to allow me to stay so late, after… tough negotiations).        The Norwegian Alexander Rybak (with origins from Belarus) was the winner [...]

Tomorrow speaker at “Greek Business Forum”

I was very happy to be invited last week as a speaker at the panel of “Greek Business Forum”, one of the most important events regarding the presence of Greek companies in Romania. It will be held at Intercontinental hotel, being organized by BMG group (most of you mainly know their very successful magazine “Business Review”) and by attending it in the previous 2 editions I learned a lot more than I expected. This year the speakers will be the Ambassador of Greece, the Economic Counselor, Mr Marian Lucu (from Lucu Tsignopoulou Law Firm), a representative of Cosmote and… me. I guess we [...]

Thursday night at Illusions (Bucharest)

Friday at Aquarium (Timisoara) It was an interesting night indeed. Last Thursday I was invited at the opening of “Illusions” restaurant, a new “hotspot” at the downtown of Bucharest, across the Italian embassy. The PR company “Civitas” did a great job at the organization, as it was full of people (including several Romanian celebrities as well). A very stylish place, which looks impressive at first, a Romanian chef with over 10 years of experience abroad, warm people smiling (you know I have a problem when I am served by grumpy guys) and mostly an investment which stands out of the [...]

An “offer I can’t refuse” in Timisoara…

- “Mister, you have declined almost all our offers”. – “I am sorry, I don’t do it on purpose, but your offers are very expensive, no one would buy them even before the crisis”. – “Ok, let me try my luck one last time, this is an offer you can’t refuse”. – “Be my guest”. – “I have an excellent commercial space, in a top location…” – “In the center?” – “No, no at (…) area” -  “But this is poor area here, no?” – “How do you know?” – “…go on, please” – “…it has around 110 sq.m. and the price is 500.000 euro, slightly negotiable”. – “But I told [...]
