Romania through my eyes

“You don’t give me the price I want? You are not serious, you don’t have money”

Part 1 “So, this is the commercial space. You can see here the bank and from here you can see the rest of the available surfaces”. “Nice, but I am only interested in the bank”. “But the rest is very nice as well, I have invested a lot of money here, so as to be a state of art for an office”. “I believe you” I said, while walking the stairs up. I was not able to avoid watching the empty area anyway, so I followed the owner and the agent (“when you can not avoid a rape, at least try to enjoy it…”). The other surfaces were really impressive, with expensive finishings. “Why did you invest all [...]

My trips in autumn…

(Let’s see what others believe for Romania…)         Hello from Timisoara (or Cluj, depends on when you read these lines!). Last evening I attended a very interesting party with “Cuban’ theme, organized by the major Austrian law firm Wolf Theiss. I didn’t really expect it to be so good. Appropriate finger food, very nice music and (the most important) very relaxing atmosphere and environment. The party’s location, the 13th floor’s terrace of “Generali” office building (Calea Buzesti – Gheorghe Polizu intersection) was a wise choice, allowing to everyone to enjoy the splendid view of [...]

Tomorrow in Timisoara and Cluj…

…my perfect “Prima Casa” indicators Hello to everyone. Tomorrow I will be flying to Timisoara and Cluj. I will arrive in Timisoara at 10.00 in the morning, ready to attend 4 very important meetings and then at 15.15 I will fly to the capital of Transylvania, for one day. As I have still not recovered from my health problems (the faint etc), I have organized a… relaxed programme, with just… 9 meetings per day, instead of my usual “at least 14″. I intend to talk to you the next days for Prima Casa programme (hoping that you will be willing to read some truths, after all the speculation about [...]

2 litters of water for a fainted stubborn Greek…

(Does anyone else need them too?)  Part 3 (to read part 1, please press here, for part 2, please press here)   A serious problem is never solved easily…       When I arrived in Bucharest, the pilot had already arranged for an ambulance to wait me. I was really surprised by the care of all the people there… The crew, the ones who work on the ground, the doctors and the others in the ambulance. All of them did their best, worried a lot, asked me all possible questions, forced me to accept all controls. After they got sure that I was not in danger and after they did all they had to, [...]

2 litters of water for a fainted stubborn Greek…

(Does anyone else need them too?) (part 2, to read part 1, please press here ) Reality bites (2 litters of cold water solved the problem)      Several softer or harder slaps and smacks on my face didn’t work (I bet there is a queue of people who would pay, so as to have the pleasure to smack me like this… saving me, while I would stay defenseless…). Someone tried to shake me, but the last time I was shaking was at a dance floor, if I remember correctly, so no luck again. Finally, a stewardess who was really worried (and very helpful, I might say) did what really solved the problem: [...]

2 litters of water for a fainted stubborn Greek…

(Does anyone else need them too?) Part 1 When I fainted during the flight… Darkness… I was sitting on the bathroom of the plane, with my eyes closed, trying to understand where I was… Darkness… I couldn’t open them, I just started hearing some noises and voices, but they didn’t disturb me too much. I was feeling like being in another dimension… Darkness… (Does anyone else need them too?) Part 1 When I fainted during the flight… Darkness… I was sitting on the bathroom of the plane, with my eyes closed, trying to understand where I was… Darkness… I couldn’t open them, [...]

Mr Teodor Pop is one of the market leaders today in Romanian Retail industry. Managing Partner of RED, Mr Pop has been involved in projects of several millions of euro and he has promoted Romania in international level. In his interview to me, he reveals to us few “restructuring secrets”, explains the new situation in the market and he is honest enough, so as to disclose that there are cases of retailers who don’t even pay the rents, exposing in the clearest possible way the dramatic situation of the market today. “How would you like to pay? By cash or credit card?”

Yesterday evening I was having a meeting with two good friends of mine (one Romanian and one Greek), in the lobby of one of the top hotels here in Bucharest. At the end of our discussion, we asked for the bill. After 10 minutes of waves and other signs, we finally… convinced the waitress to walk 3 meters distance and reach us (I guess there is a river there, unseen to the rest of us, because she was moving so slowly, as if she had to be careful while crossing it…). My friend gave her a note of 100 ron, she took it in her hands and then asked: “How would you like to pay? By cash [...]
