“Ilia, you have a problem too”
On 01.02.2010, Mrs Ana P. sent to me the following text, commenting on my post: If you don't like how I work, go back to your country
"Interesting these interviews. I suppose you made here a short review of these "happenings". The fact that YOU are the one to whom everything is happening should be curious. Maybe you should change something about you too. Don't you think that if out of the 7 persons admitted in the first place, 4 are not ok, and 3 of them you fire youself you have a problem too???? Or maybe it is much easier to think that it's a global conspiracy.
All the best and success"
Unfortunately I am not the only one…
I would be very happy if I would be the only one to whom everything is happening. This would mean that except me, all
the others don't have a problem. Unfortunately this is not the case. I receive lots of emails every month by plenty of foreigners and several Romanians too, who simply confirm all that I write here. They experience every day the same issues, problems and frustrations as I do. They write to me stories that sound even more unbelievable comparing to mine…
There is not any global conspiracy, ofcourse. But this is simply the approach that many people have for life, it mirrors their principles and ethics about several domains of our society. Regarding the 7 people I hired and then fired etc… The mistake is simply mine. During 2007 – 2008 almost all of us had lowered our standards so as to hire people. In the same time we accepted to try our luck with persons who were definitely not appropriate. Some of these colleagues proved to be good, some others proved to be not interested. For example, in 2008 I fired all, in 2009 I kept both the colleagues whom I hired. What I want to describe by these real incidents is not to accuse the others for not staying at work, with me. I am more interested to confront the wrong mentality that we (still) see around us every day, especially in the way people perceive the words "work", "try", "results" etc…
On 20.01.2010, a Canadian reader of this blog, Mr Jay Banks was referring to the same issue, commenting on the post: If you don't like how I work, go back to your country
Finding people that are experienced in real estate business and dedicated to work hard is quite difficult task everywhere in the world. Especially during the crisis the amount of candidates for this work is big and the process of hiring is much more complicated because you are flooded with all those applications. However, I think that in this situation it's good time to exploit personal relations of you or your colleagues and take into consideration their recommendations. At least I have got good experience with this strategy.

Jay Banks
