Hello to everyone. I hope that all of you will celebrate this day, Valentine’s day, in the best way you desire, together with the one you wish. Today I would like to share with you a few words about why so many millions of people in this country are so passionate about Real Estate. More or less, I could tell you 10 + 1 reasons, as I perceive them through my business activity during the last 6 years here. I can also add the feedback of the hundreds of people I know and the result is something like this:
1. Every Romanian wants to have his own property. He feels more secure (exactly like the Greeks. This is why the no.1 European country with people owning their home is Greece and no.2 is Romania).
2. Dealing with properties is something that many people feel “easy to understand”. Even if they don’t really have any idea about it, in the beginning it sounds “easy”… “A property, a price, few parameters”. For most of them it remains “easy” too. (This is probably what Dragos Dragoteanu wants to fight, by writing at his blog “because Real Estate is not for everyone).
3. The majority of Romanians loves easy, fast money without too much thinking (like Greeks and not only). In the past, Real Estate business provided this wonderful, unique feeling to almost each and every one of them.
4. Real Estate deals with lots of money. So everyone involved considers himself a “businessman” or “businesswoman”. (and why not? Reading a map is the main fundamental some people had. With more “qualities” you used to be a “small King”…)
5. Let us think of a normal person, living an ordinary life. Usually he complains that the politicians don’t respect him, that no one pays attention to his opinion, that he is all by himself in this world. Entering into the Real Estate world changes all these, especially if he was an owner in the past. He was “important”, agents were begging him to give them his property. Clients were queuing at his door, asking him to sell. He was making fun of them, sometimes rising the price every week, asking for outrageous conditions or changing his mind every month or so. Can you imagine his pleasure? Can you only guess how proud (for himself) he was?
6. Many people are intelligent, capable of doing big things, but without any guidance in how to achieve on the long run. Real Estate is an easy and safe solution for them too. With some mind, some (always necessary) luck, maybe some “smecherie”, they changed their life forever.
7. This is a work of constant move. You go to places, meet many people, lawyers, architects, brokers, consultants, notaries and others. You can not get bored. You see hotels, restaurants, coffee shops, sometimes talking next to a big businessman, a politician or whoever else.
8. Real Estate is easy to measure, at least some parts of it. So, any success in this domain can easily be transformed to upgraded social status, a target for too many people all around the world and ofcourse in Romania too…
9. Talking about a lot of money gives you added value as person. When a taxi driver or a doorman became “Real Estate consultant”, his circle of friends appreciated him more and they were asking him where to invest, on what etc. He was the “center” of every discussion. He was invited to evaluate properties, even to advise people (who were apparently even more… blind than him).
10. Real Estate appeared to be a business without an end. “Bucharest citizens require one million new dwellings”… “the demand in Bucharest is for another 2 – 3 million sq.m. of A Class office space” and many other “prognoses” like these sounded lovely to the ears of people. Do you know anyone who doesn’t want to earn a lot, to be appreciated, to feel strong and to be part of a business story with strong positive potential for some more decades?
10 + 1. (Now seriously…) Romania’s needs are obvious. Real Estate will be a major factor for the country’s fight to improve, to succeed through the years to come. It has become an important factor of everyone’s life, as long as he realizes his need to become well informed or to ask the help of a real expert for this. Romanian Real Estate market has an excellent future, for the ones who will respect themselves, the market and their clients.
Enjoy this special day (and especially night!)
