Don’t search only for the… “Elton John of properties”! “Paula Seling” and others are good too! Just avoid… “Kamelia” etc

Last Saturday will remain in my mind forever. I was at Piata Constitutiei and had the luck to experience the concert of Sir Elton John. For 2,5 hours this incredible artist spread his spell throughout the lucky 12.000 people who were present. Playing his piano and singing simultaneously, he showed what it means to be "great". No arrogance, no "pretending", no attempt to impress, no… "show". Just amazing music by him and his band. A rare "diamond" of art…

Exception which simply confirms the rule

Yes, Elton is a brilliant artist. But we don't have the pleasure to hear him live often here in Romania. (Actually not even the Brits don't have the chance to hear him live many times). This was once and who knows… maybe we may hear him again in few years time. Meanwhile, we still like listening to music and we have to deal with our "local reality". There are too many options, local and international singers, although usually their level does not reach Elton John's standards. But still, each of us chooses his favoriteartists and listens to their music.

"Diamonds" are rare, either in music or in business and investments

My colleagues always complain that I am perfectionist. "We have 5 – 6 top offers for this client, there are very few who can say the same", one of them complained to me last Friday. She is right. We have some excellent properties for sale, but not too many. They definitely represent less than 10% of what is offered in the market today. Looks like "diamonds" are rare, either in music or in business and investments. We keep on searching for "Elton John" of properties (in terms of quality) but it is not so easy.

There are also "Paula Seling", "Andra", "Marcel Pavel" etc

For every one "Elton John" you find, you also mess with another 100 others, from "Madonna" to… "Kamelia" (that Romanian lady who sings that "she never wanted to be a pretty girl VIP"… do these people really understand what they sing?). But still, except "Elton John", there are also "Paula Seling", "Andra", "Marcel Pavel" and other nice singers, who can surprise you with their voice, talent, performance.

Searching for "Elton John of properties", usually we end up with "manele singers dressed like Elton John properties"

Many times we make a big mistake, especially during crisis periods. We consider everything as a bad option. We judge all investment proposals as "not sufficient" and we search for an ideal one, like… "Elton John" for the world of properties. Super location, fantastic features, all approvals obtained, extremely low price, all guarantees in place. I meet so many people who describe to me exactly this kind of investment (and some of them also want to pay the Real Estate consultant something like "a tip").

How many times were they able to find this kind of opportunities? From 0 to… 1. Either they lost years chasing any possible "opportunity" which hided 1.000 problems to solve (so… it was like a manele singer dressed like "Elton John") or they simply never received the offer they had been waiting for. Meanwhile they were losing plenty of good offers, which were sold and produced very good results.

Instead of chasing the impossible, maybe we should focus on the good "reachable" options

Is it a compromise? To accept "normal good offers" instead of waiting for the "unique" one? If a property is very good, matching location, details, price etc, then why not investing in it? Hoping that the price will fall furthermore? And if it doesn't?

I am the last one who will tell you to be in a hurry and invest in bad properties. But during this period, probably for the following 12 months (at least), you will find many excellent options to invest in Romania. I think it would be a pity for you to wait only for "Elton John" to appear, losing many other very interesting (or excellent) options.

Sustainable success is created by many smaller or bigger correct decisions. Not just by one move which solved all our problems forever.
