The meeting was quite successful, being part of my recently implemented strategy. Right after my mobile was on fire, talking non stop for several issues and organizing my visit next week to London, to promote Romania in an important event there. In the end this was canceled, as a gentleman informed me for some things at 11.30 and at 13.30 I was announced that everything was completely different (= we should not consider that some people are unserious only in Romania…). I canceled my participation there, because when someone changes 100% his words in just 2 hours, he doesn’t inspire me trust…

Tarom: Extremely serious and careful, even if it made all people nervous…
I guess I was the last one checking in for the plane, thank God in the internal flights Tarom is very flexible, allowing to people to arrive even at 30 – 40 minutes before the flight. I was eagerly waiting to be in Timisoara (five meetings to attend) and I was working on some files, while at about half the distance we were announced that the plane has to return back, due to a technical problem. All people were upset, but after the tragedy of Brazil the previous day, everyone realized quite soon that security comes first.
I was happily surprised to arrive at the terminal and to be immediately directed to the counter of Tarom, where new boarding passes were waiting the passengers. But the second attempt to reach Timisoara was late too, as there was a lost luggage (or something) and for security reasons they had to identify everything, before taking off. Again everyone was quite nervous, but I think that in the same time they should have been happy too, it is always better to fly with someone who delays you so as to guarantee your safety and follow the rules.
(My only problem in that flight was a 55 years old flight attendant, who was serving like she was throwing straw to cows so as to eat, while she had probably forgotten to enter in her shower since the days Gigi Becalli was still in prison. A rare situation, but it happened…)

Landing just before the storm…
I arrived at Timisoara at 16.00. I know that after having lost 20 kilos in the last 4 months, I have changed a bit. But did I shrink that much so as not to be noticeable? I was already two hours late in my schedule and in a great hurry, but I had to lose 5 minutes standing alone in the middle of the arrivals terminal “because I was not identified”… Anyway the very polite Italian collaborators of mine finally found me and we drove fast to our destination. I was lucky enough to visit one location and to attend three meetings (because I had all of them in the same hotel lobby), before I reached the airport again, so as to return, at about 18.20.
Being hungry, I ate a prosciutto sandwich at the airport. There, at Timisoara, you can find the best food of Romanian airports, with the very good quality, prices and variety, served very politely too. (I paid 8 ron for an excellent sandwich, while I guess that for something like this in Bucharest’s Otopeni they would have asked me to leave my mobile device so as to cover the cost…). My mood was excellent, as all my meetings were successful. I even shook hands with some owners confirming that I will purchase their commercial space in the center of the city.

So I entered in the plane with a large smile painted on my face, thinking that you don’t meet every day a sequence of serious, civilized people. I was “flying in the clouds”, but I was “landed to reality” very fast, as the plane entered in a… non stop turbulence for the three quarters of the flight and the landing procedure we experienced will probably remain unforgettable to most of the passengers. It was just few minutes before the major storm hit the Romanian capital and I am sure that the pilot did his best so as to avoid any unnecessary situations.
(I found out that after 4 minutes all the landings were forbidden and forwarded to the airport of Constanta).

Meeting in the darkness…
I had promised to my people and PR specialists that after Timisoara I would have gone home to relax. Yeah… In Greek we say “Body dies first, habits die after”. During the day I scheduled two meetings for the time after my arrival back to Bucharest. So I was expected there, while the storm started. The rain was pouring as if someone was emptying to us buckets of water, you could barely see in front of you. I felt very nice and safe in my car, without any problem with this situation, the water, the wind, the fallen trees etc.
I arrived at the first meeting quite late, due to the circumstances. Three very serious people were waiting me at the headquarters of another collaborator. Soon we realized that the electricity was not stable, the lights were trembling like a horror movie and a lady from the other side of the table proposed to continue without. I offered the chance to postpone the meeting for the next day, but they insisted, so we continued talking, without lights at all! My collaborator switched on his Mac Book, directed it to middle of the table, so as we could barely see each other…
During the meeting, I… convinced the owners that they should not accept my offer (!), explaining to them that by accepting it, they would receive more money today, but they would lose on the long run. They were quite surprised that they arrived for negotiations but they ended up receiving consulting for restructuring their business, but I think we became almost friends (I can not tell you that I saw this on their faces, I just felt it while shaking hands, as no face was visible…)

Ending a hard day at Mandragora…
After all these, there was a good new friend of mine waiting me for dinner. I congratulated myself for having chosen my favorite Mandragora restaurant, where I was able to relax and concentrate in the discussion, enjoying the very good food and the atmosphere. Finally I arrived home at about 00.30. Yes, I know, “exactly as I had planned it in the morning”, ready to relax for Wednesday’s press conference…
But if you ask me “would you change something during this day, if you could”, I would have replied negative…

My programme was already “full enough”, having meetings since 09.30 in the morning, then a trip to Timisoara, arriving there at 14.00, running to 6 meetings and flying back to Bucharest at 19.05, so as to relax at home, preparing for the Press Conference of yesterday, as I had promised to my people and my […]

[216
