Next week is one of the most important weeks in the last 20 years of Romanian history. The summit of NATO will be held here in Bucharest, from the 2nd\u00a0 until the 4th\u00a0 of April.<\/strong> The entire city is prepared for this event. Streets will be closed, check points will be created and in many cases the Romanian citizens will feel like they are hostages in their own homeland. In the photo here you can see the streets which will be closed, in the map given by the government. In the big square in front of Palace of Parliament (I don\u2019t know why, but I keep preferring mentioning it with the name \u201cCeausescu\u2019s Palace\u201d), hundreds of cars are gathered and they are ready to be used the next days.
\nOk, I totally understand and respect the problems that will occur. Honestly, I chose to be here too, instead of leaving like the majority of the foreigners, because I wanted to live this next week like all the natives will live, to understand and feel the problems and the situation that will be created. But I think that it is unfair just to complain and to forget the most important effect of this summit for Romania: The choice of Bucharest as the place of this summit is a recognition to the tremendous progress of the country the last years.
\nRomanians complain all the time about almost everything; it is something like their second nature (one more field in which they are the same like the Greeks).<\/strong> Everything that is Romanian is bad for the majority of them; everything that is imported is good. But now, this summit will be added in the good facts of the last years. West recognizes the progress of the country, Romania is considered as one modern western country, rising from its past problems. Hosting NATO summit is a sign to the rest of the world<\/strong> (which probably doesn\u2019t know) that it is safe enough for everyone.
\n<\/strong> We will talk more about this summit. Honestly, I don\u2019t believe that these events change the history of the world nowadays (there are other more important, with less countries invited). But for Romania it is a great moment, a medal which approves the progress of the past and recognizes the potential of the future.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
