Of course “Hope dies last” as we say in Greek, but the first signs are not exactly satisfying…
• The organizers have forgotten something. Based on what happens here, I guess they had in mind to give to every foreigner who comes in the exhibition a special “pill”, which the foreigner could swallow and automatically start understanding Spanish. I think they forgot the “pills” somewhere, but they still left EVERYTHING in Spanish.• Most of the signs, the catalogue of exhibition, the food in the restaurants, almost anything I see around me is in Spanish. (one elder guy who I met yesterday told me “in situations like this, they should give us at least a charming young lady to translate”).
• I wrote above for catalogue? No, sorry, wrong description. This leaflet could be more something like a guide in Spanish, which totally does not care for any foreigner. It has some advertisements in Spanish and in the last pages just the names of the companies which participate. They also gave us a memory stick, extremely uncomfortable to use, because if you search for hundreds of companies, you can not lose 3 minutes so as to find all the details for one.
• The service the organizers offer can be seriously improved. Starting with the fact that even THEY don’t know English! Forgotten things, many small details in the stand which are really uncomfortable to handle and an overall approach that is summed to “this is it. Take it or leave it”.
• One of the most famous Greek singers the last 30 years is Giannis Parios. His no. 1 song in the ’80s was “Loneliness is better than you, who I can not reach. Once I find you, once I lose you, loneliness is better” (ok, the translation…. executes the song, but you got the main idea. The original song is here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8RjF7_YVk5E). So, yesterday I remembered this song, as I barely met few people. In one case, none came to us for 1,5 hour, allowing me to enjoy a very nice conversation with a really intelligent Romanian guy, who I hope in the future he will be my friend, except the business we may do together. (Maybe this is the reason I see the exhibition with such a grumpy mood, I am more than sure that if the place was full of people, I would be able to read even… the unknown languages of the most distant African tribes).
• Hopefully things today will be much better, factor which will allow me to share with you also the nice things that I noticed in this exhibition. Before I let you in your peace for today, I want to tell you that yesterday I met one of the top 10 most impressive persons who I met in my entire life.
