First we act, then we wonder if we acted correctly (and then we send this kind of question…)

A few days ago, I received a question that really fascinated me, “stole my heart” as we say in Greek. Look at what a reader of mine asks me…

“I have an owner that lied to me only to get her money. She thinks she’s fooled me and that it’s over but I see her every month and all I can do is look at her in disgust. If she would have at least tricked me with something that I bought from her. She told me there was no way the room would get mold because when she was in residence there they never had mold, that we didn’t turn on the heating system and that’s why it’s cold. Then I went to the neighbor below me and the one on the 1st floor, I talked to them and guess what? They have the same problem, they always get mold in the winter but she was almost dancing when she told me there was no way. Both in the bathroom and kitchen the water from the faucet spills over and seriously so. I told her last month to fix it and no one has shown up so far. On my birthday I was putting mold spray on the walls. You can’t believe the quantity of mold I have in the house. And I’m paying her 280 euro. Oh, and every time we take a bath the water leaks down to the neighbor below. You know what she told me? To take showers instead of baths so the water doesn’t spill over. The funny thing is, she knew about this in advance, before we moved in. We had the heating system on non-stop this winter and the house was still cold. Personally I don’t get cold easily but I don’t think there were more than 15 degrees C. Luckily, we bought a central heating system that runs on oil because otherwise I would have gotten sick. In any case, there is more than what I have written here.

Now what I want to do is: last month she didn’t come for the rent (560 RON) and the maintenance costs last month totaled 1150+, that is more than the 280 euro guaranty I gave her. I want to leave without telling her because otherwise she won’t want to and if I go she’ll tell me she won’t give me the guaranty. I’ll leave her the keys, clean up the apartment, won’t take anything (not that there’s anything to take) and I move out. Based on the rental contract, is there something she can do to me? The contract is not approved by a notary.”

So, this lovely gentleman:

  • Rented an apartment without checking it before…
  • Then he discovered the problem…
  • Then he paid lots of money to resolve the problem, without thinking before paying…
  • And now he is asking me if he can leave the apartment…
  • Mentioning his contract (which he did not send me, but I am sure he counts on my spiritual abilities to read it from the distance)…
  • Which is not approved by a notary!

I declare myself one of his fans. I think that he is ready to candidate at the next elections.

What do you think?
